America's Boating Course is an eight-hour course covering the basics of boating and is appropriate for youth as well as the adult boater.  Successful completion of this course satisfies the education requirement to operate a boat in ANY STATE and for youth to operate a PWC in both Virginia and North Carolina. 

Maritime VHF radio is recommended for emergency communication with USCG, NC Wildlife, VA DGIF, county law enforcement and LGWSC equipped monitoring stations.

It is important to be familiar with Lake Gaston Accident Reporting procedures and also know how to report boating violations. The information below was put together by the LGWSC to provide important phone numbers for accident reporting and boating violations.

Aids to Navigation can provide a boater with information similar to that which drivers get from street signs, stop signals, road barriers, detours, and traffic lights. This booklet will give you, the recreational boater, the basic information you need about the U.S. Aids to Navigation System (USATONS).
