- Obtain and review the boating laws of Virginia and North Carolina; they are not the same.
- Create a Float Plan and let people know where you are going and when you intend to return.
- Take advantage of the free Boating Safety Inspections offered by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
- Sign up for the Safe Boating Courses by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
- Vessels with enclosed bilge and fuel tank compartments need to be properly ventilated.
- Inboard gasoline engine carburetors must be equipped with USCG approved flame arrestors.
- Please do not litter; secure your paper, plastic, cans, cigarette butts and bottles.
- Every vessel should carry a properly rigged anchor with at least 100 feet of line.
- Stay alert and be courteous to fellow boaters.
